New on-board computer for Bombardier

CC Systems develops new on-board computer for Bombardier Transportation.
Bombardier Transportation has ordered development and delivery of a new PC-based display computer from the control system expert CC Systems. The value of the order is about 1.5 MUSD. The new computer has a 1.66 GHz Core 2 Duo-processor from Intel, making it a state-of-the-art product in the vehicle computer market. It has a 10 4” touchscreen and uses Windows XP or Linux as operating system. There are also plans to develop variants of the product with 12” and 15” screen sizes.

Bombardier Transportations primary application area for this product is showing digital video in driver cabins on trains. Video cameras placed on the train and on the station platform send video signals over Ethernet and the computer decodes the signals and displays the video images to the train driver and staff. The system will contribute to a higher security level through the train drivers better view of doors, station platforms and circuit opening of the emergency brakes. In addition to the video application the new computer will be used in advanced HMI applications, running applications that collect and display data for the whole vehicle and allows the driver to control the various subsystems on the vehicle.

CC Systems consider this computer as a complement to their existing product portfolio. The company already market advanced displays and on-board computers; the CC Pilot XS, a general product for Windows CE, and CC Pilot XL, a PC-based product for use primary in forestry machines and advanced construction equipment. The new product, which will be marketed under the name CC Pilot XLi, will be a general product that fits a wider range of vehicle-applications, e.g. trucks, construction equipment and marine applications.
